Patriotic Week Part III - American Pillow Case and 5x5 Frames.

Time for Part III of our Patriotic Week and I’m pumped for these projects – Patriotic decor America the Beautiful. (ICYMI, here’s Part II.) I will show you several, including designs on 5×5 Box Frames and I’ll throw in a Pillow Case! Sound like fun? Well it really was. Except. The Transfer Tragedy.

I was doing a mass chalking of multiple pieces for the store and was in a hurry to move on to something else. I put it down and wasn’t paying attention and it stuck to itself. D’oh! Of course, the part that stuck together was important and I lost the USA part of the transfer because I just ripped it apart without thinking. So moral of my story is take care of your transfers. It’s an expensive lesson; at least I had a spare copy of this one for classes at my Store.

First project – the Pillow Case.

I have a red lumbar case that I chalked America the Beautiful on from the America the Beautiful Transfer. My personal tip on working with ink. In my experience, after you make very sure your transfer is nice and adhered to your surface, start with the ink above the design and, with your squeegee, and pull down from the top in one direction. I don’t go side to side. Why? It seems that top down works best when it comes to the possibility of the ink bleeding through. The side to side seems to always catch a bubble or gap for me. And since ink is pretty much permanent, it’s a good thing to be as mistake proof as possible. The ink has to be dried then heat set to really make it permanent.

Next Project – Box Frames

Next, I’ll show you a couple of fun little projects – part of the Star Patterns transfer. These box frames are the best, especially because they are double sided. I put a star on the back after I painted it red and then used the Stars and Stripes Forever part of the transfer. Another fun one done.

Next was another box frame to make a great grouping or as part of a vignette. I added a garland embellishment to this one and used the Freedom and star portions of the America the Beautiful transfer.
